Jim Jones was born in Alton, Illinois, to Hubert and Betty (Edwards) Jones. He graduated from Jerseyville High School in 1988 and went on to attend Western Illinois University, where he earned a degree in Finance in 1992. Following graduation, Jim began a 32-year career as a financial advisor with Ameriprise Financial.

During that time, he met the love of his life, Sherrie (Smith) Jones, on a blind date in St. Louis, Missouri. The two were married in 1995 at St. Gerard Majella Catholic Church in Kirkwood, Missouri, beginning a life together centered on family, faith, and shared experiences.

In 1998, Jim transitioned into a management role in Palm Harbor, Florida. During their five years there, Jim and Sherrie welcomed three children and built lasting friendships and cherished memories. In 2003, Jim relocated his family to Sherrie’s hometown of Akron, Ohio, where they continued to grow their roots.

After nearly 25 years with Ameriprise, Jim later joined Symphony Financial (LPL), where he continued to serve clients and build meaningful relationships. Throughout his career, he formed many lasting personal and professional friendships that enriched his life and will always be treasured.

Jim had a remarkable ability to bring ease, joy, and laughter to any situation. His charismatic and genuine nature made him someone people naturally gravitated toward. If you knew Jim, you knew you could count on him—no matter how big or small the need.

He found his greatest joy in spending time with family and friends, often cheering on his favorite sports teams. Whether boating during Ohio summers or enjoying hunting trips in Illinois, Jim embraced life fully and shared those experiences with the people he loved. A devoted father, he coached football, supported his children’s many activities, and took pride in introducing them to new interests, including beekeeping.

Jim is survived by his wife of 28 years, Sherrie; their three children, Leah, Anamarie, and Rick; his brothers, John (Mary) Jones and Bob (Kim) Jones; his sister, Nancy Jones; and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Paul Jones.
